It’s reminiscent of those old ale flips which traditionally combined spiced sugar and ale, and were warmed with a hot poker (ye olde microwave had yet to be invented).
We’re not suggesting you grab a poker to warm your beer for our winter cocktail, just heat it on the stove and let the liquorice and damson flavours in the Poacher’s Choice, along with the warming Cognac and mulled wine spices warm your cockles. Sound like they’ll be needing it next week!
Gently warm on a stove and strain into pre-warmed half-pint glasses. Garnish with a clove-studded orange wedge.
