Bath Literature Festival 2014

Jennifer Saunders

As you may already know, at Hall & Woodhouse Bath we invest 5% of our profits back into the Bath community by sponsoring events like the Bath Literature Festival. Here's a roundup of how we supported this year’s event...

We sponsored the following two events for Jennifer Saunders and Amy Chua; Jennifer Saunders (pictured) spoke about her new book "Bonkers: My Life in Laughs" at the Forum in Bath. The book has been described by critics as "funny, touching and disarmingly honest." It's full of celebrity tales about life on set with Ruby Wax, Goldie Hawn, Joanna Lumley and Lulu. Jennifer, a writer, comedian and actress is probably most famous for French & Saunders and Absolutely Fabulous, which she wrote as well as starred in. Amy Chua and her husband Jed Rubenfield joined forces for their only UK festival appearance this year to debate racial stereotypes in their explosive analysis of success, The Triple Package - What Really Determines Success”. The book takes a close look at one of humanity’s enduring mysteries – how some individuals from unpromising origins find success and why some cultural groups in the US seem to consistently outperform others.

Hall & Woodhouse also hosted Books for Breakfast where two authors were in conversation with Sony award winning Richard Kilgarrif. The first event was with BBC Newsnights’ Gavin Esler about his book "Lessons From the Top: The Three Universal Stories that All Successful Leaders Tell" and the second with The Financial Times’ Heather McGregor about her book "Mrs Moneypenny's Careers Advice for Ambitious Women."
