National Gardening Week

national_gardening

This week is National Gardening Week. We know that we’re all being bombarded with national ‘days’ ‘weeks’ and ‘months’ but as this one is  concerning something close to our hearts – we have given it the two thumbs up –  Paul McCartney style!

At Badger we’re all focusing on our Beer Garden at this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show The planting and nurturing is all well underway the only difference is that our garden unlike most others will be carefully packed up and moved in July!  ï»¿

Whether you have a tiny window box outside your 4th storey flat a nice little space behind your semi-detached house or a  sprawling acre behind your country cottage gardening much like real ale can be relaxing re-energising and cathartic. The RHS has lots of themed events that will be going on across this weekend all listed here. But if you want to get out into your own little plot this weekend here is what the RHS suggest as jobs for April.

Top  10 jobs this month

Keep weeds under control

Protect fruit blossom from late frosts

Tie in climbing and rambling roses

Sow hardy annuals and herb seeds

Start to feed citrus plants

Increase the water given to houseplants

Feed hungry shrubs and roses

Sow new lawns or repair bare patches

Prune fig trees

Divide bamboos and water lilies

Most  importantly of all though you must ensure that when undertaking any gardening work you have all the necessary equipment  which includes; a pitch fork shovel rake  and shears… and most importantly some post-exertion Badger Ales – as nothing motivates or rewards the hard work required when gardening better than a few bottles of real ale!
