The Halfway Inn Brave the Shave for Macmillan

On Friday 19th August, Business Partners Ben and Anne at the Halfway Inn at Wareham held a ‘Brave the Shave’ event to support the valuable work of Macmillan Cancer Support.

‘Brave the Shave’ is a sponsored national event which encourages people to shave their hair to raise money and show support for men and women with cancer. Pub Manager Jamie Webb did a fantastic job in organising and delivering the event in support of Gorden Ruddle, a regular guest and friend of the Halfway Inn who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for Oesophageal Cancer.

The event was a huge success with eight brave shavers in total including team members Jamie Webb and Lynn Ruddle plus six of their local guests. Regular guest Dudley (who has recently recovered from cancer himself) and Sarah from New Image hair salon in Wareham volunteered to cut the hair.

There was a great atmosphere and community spirit throughout the evening as crowds gathered to observe the greatly anticipated head shave and to join in with the accompanying raffle and fundraising games. The overwhelming support of team members, guests and local businesses raised a total of £1,150 for the charity, doubling the original target of £500.

 Jamie comments:

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this event and would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported us”.

The dedication and teamwork throughout this event is part of what makes the Halfway Inn an all-round great public house and worthy winners of the 2016 Public House of the Year award.
