16 October 2009 - Dorset Community Chest 2009 Winners Announced

Mark Woodhouse, Vice Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse welcomed everyone to what was for him 'one of the best nights of the year'. He introduced the Community Chest's partners, Fanny Charles, Blackmore Vale Magazine; Marilyn Barber, Stour & Avon Magazine; Steve Carpenter, Midwest Radio and Colin Brady, Community Foundation for Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole, and praised them for their help in publicising the Community Chest and for their help in judging the applications.

The Community Chest received 160 applications for £250,000 from across Dorset but only 29 organisations could share in the £20,000 on offer.

The top award of £2,000 went to the Blandford based organisation Knees Up that runs dance and exercise classes at its prefab hall at the rear of M & Co. Having refurbished the majority of their hall they requested financial support to fund the refurbishment of their loos and to provide a disabled facility.

Mark Woodhouse said 'Marilyn Barber and I visited Knees Up and we were highly impressed with what they were doing to help the community and we could not think of a more deserving organisation'.

This year's recipients included: Alison Riley Memorial Foundation, Bournemouth & East Dorset Hospital Broadcasting Association, Centre for Wessex Young Musicians, Chase Community Friends, Cheselbourne Village Hall, Cranborne Community Theatre, Dorset Chamber Orchestra, Dorset Search & Rescue, Ferndown Village Hall, Four Leaf Clover Club, Gillingham Car Link Scheme, Haycorns Association, Kidzone Out of School Club, Kipling Juvenile Carnival Club, Knees Up, Mosaic, Motcombe Allotment Association, Pimperne Village Hall, Shaftesbury & District Carers, Shaftesbury Youth Club, Sherborne Rugby Football Club, Shroton Play Area Action Group, Stapehill over 60s, Stepping Stones Pre School, Sturminster Newton Jigsaw Toddler Group, Swanage Railway Trust, Toby's Shaftesbury Young People's Project, Winfrith Playing Field Committee and Witchampton PALS Pre School.
