09 November 2007 - TRUE LOVERS KNOT ANNOUNCED AS FINALIST IN 2007 NATIONAL BUSINESS AWARDS
The True Lovers Knot at Tarrant Keyneston has reached the finals of the 2007 National Business Awards – the UK’s leading programme for recognising excellence in business achievement, innovation and success.
The North Dorset pub restaurant, owned by Hall & Woodhouse and run by licensees Antony and Barbara Marshall, has been announced as a finalist in the Business Innovation of the Year Award category – for a range of initiatives designed to improve accessibility and customer service for people with hearing and visual difficulties, including:
Providing deaf awareness training and sign language lessons for staff to improve communication with customers with hearing difficulties.
Installation of a hearing loop to assist customers with hearing aids to communicate with staff (the first pub in Britain to do so).
Investing in vibrating alarm clocks for the pub’s letting rooms.
Providing menus in audio, large print and Braille.
The pub also provides special gluten-free and sugar-free dishes to cater for customers with coeliac disease and diabetes.
A recently completed refurbishment by owners Hall & Woodhouse to improve accessibility added a ramp into the pub, improved disabled toilets, wider doors and tables high enough for wheelchairs to fit underneath.
These initiatives helped the True Lovers Knot win the Wales & West Country regional heat in July, leading to a place in the national finals and an opportunity to present to the judging panel in London last month. The national results will be announced next Tuesday (13 November).
Other finalists in the category include Norwich Union, BT and PC World (DSG International).
