27 November 2007 - HALL & WOODHOUSE WINS TESCO DRINKS AWARDS FOR A RECORD FIFTH TIME
Hall & Woodhouse has won the prestigious Tesco Drinks Awards for an unprecedented fifth time – beating the company’s own record set last year.
The winning Badger beer; brand new Harvester's Ale – a well-hopped ale with a lower ABV (2.5%) for a lighter touch – triumphed in the Lower and No Alcohol category.
According to Dorset folklore, landowners would offer the promise of hearty meals and beer to entice labourers at harvest time. This led to the demand for less potent ales – providing refreshment without compromising the quality of flavour.
Now in their 15th year, the Tesco Drinks Awards are open to all products not previously listed in a major national retailer. The Awards include categories to recognise excellence in the production of Beers, Ciders, Wines and Spirits, as well as Organic and Lower and No Alcohol drinks and a special award for Innovation.
This year was the largest ever Tesco Drinks Awards, with over 400 products – all of them never before listed at a national level. Products were blind judged for taste by teams of experts recruited from the industry and press.
Last year, Hall & Woodhouse won the competition with the liquorice and damson flavoured dark ale Poacher's Choice, which went on sale in selected Tesco stores in August.
Rick Payne, Hall & Woodhouse Brands Marketing Manager comments: 'This is now the fifth time that we have won the Tesco Drinks Awards – the only regional brewer to have won more than three times. We’re delighted that our commitment to brewing delicious and innovative new beers has been recognised by Tesco once again. Congratulations to our excellent brewing team for all their hard work.'
Harvester’s Ale will be on sale in selected Tesco stores from mid-November 2007.
