29 February 2008 - DORSET COMMUNITY CHEST OPENS FOR APPLICATIONS

Mark Woodhouse welcomed the Chairman of Dorset County Council and more than 30 councillors, journalists and VIPs to Longburton Village Hall near Sherborne on Thursday 21 February to announce the launch of the 2008 Dorset Community Chest.

This year’s Community Chest contains £20,000, and applications are now open and welcome from all voluntary or community groups and organisations working for the benefit of local people in Dorset.

Established in 2001, the Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest was founded to provide local help for the community in and around Dorset. Since then, the Chest has donated over £100,000 to 140 local voluntary organisations, with Hall & Woodhouse's employees completing over 2000 hours of voluntary work assisting with practical projects in the local community.

The Hall & Woodhouse team is supported by partners Blackmore Vale Magazine, Vale FM and The Community Foundation, who provide the Community Chest with publicity, advice and local knowledge.

Since 2001, Community Chest applications have been received a more than a thousand voluntary organisations, in areas such as: pre-schools and youth groups; health and social care; local arts; animal care; conservation and the environment.

Past awards have included a wide range of practical assistance, including equipment, maintenance, training, transport, professional advice and specific project resources. Last year alone, Hall & Woodhouse employees donated more than 200 man hours for painting, decorating and electrical testing.

The deadline for applications is Saturday 26 April. Judging will begin shortly afterwards, and successful applicants will be notified of the outcome in late August.

Application forms are available online now at www.hall-woodhouse.co.uk and will also be printed in the Blackmore Vale and Stour & Avon Magazines.

Mark Woodhouse, Vice Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse, comments: “There are so many good works being done in Dorset, and we’re delighted to be able to offer this financial and practical assistance to local organisations. As a major Dorset employer, we want to play our part in the community, and the Community Chest is all about improving the lives of local people to really make a difference.”
