29 August 2008 - Six award winning bottles standing on the wall!

Based in Dorset, Hall & Woodhouse, the largest regional family brewer of premium ales in the UK, has won a record six awards at the Taste of the West Awards 2008; two Golds, two Silvers and two Bronze.

“We are delighted with our accolades and to receive them from one of the most highly respected and prestigious food and drink award schemes is even more rewarding. Hall & Woodhouse has been brewing in Dorset since 1777, using the very best raw ingredients and recipes that have been passed from generation to generation. We are proud of our Dorset links and history and this provenance is fundamental to the fine quality of each one of our premium ales,” said Rick Payne, Brands Marketing Manager at Hall & Woodhouse.

The water used in all Badger beers is Dorset Spring water that has been naturally filtered for up to a century through the Jurassic chalk downs and drawn up 120 feet from the brewery’s own wells. Hall & Woodhouse also sources its yeast from within Dorset, the current Badger brewery yeast was changed in 1934 and it has been ‘pitched’ from brew to brew for well over 70 years. The award winning line up includes:

Golden Glory, (Gold) - a floral blend of aromatic and bitter hops with a delicate peach and melon aroma. Absolutely glorious. (4.5% ABV)
Harvester’s Ale, (Gold) - a light golden brown ale, full flavoured and fruity but with a lower ABV for a lighter touch. (2.5% ABV)
Golden Champion, (Silver) - a light golden ale with a scrumptiously fruity flavour and delicate tangerine aroma. Summer in a glass all year round. (5% ABV)
Poacher’s Choice, (Silver) - a dark rich ruby ale enhanced by a touch of liquorice for spicy sweetness and damson for a soft, subtly fruity taste. Well worth tracking down. (5.7% ABV)
Tanglefoot, (Bronze) - a World Champion golden ale with hints of melon and pear developed from fermentation. Deceptively drinkable. (5% ABV)
Applewood Cider, (Bronze) – a rustic medium-dry cider made with vintage West Country apples, in collaboration with Thatcher’s. Matured in oak vats for a wood infused flavour. Scrumptious to the core. (6% ABV)

Established 15 years ago, the Taste of the West Awards recognise quality, regional flavours and exceptional businesses across food and drink production, hospitality and food retail. Judging panels are made up of industry experts including chefs, food technologists, food preparation trainers and teachers, trade buyers, food writers and home economists. The Awards culminate in a ceremony in the autumn, at which the overall awards are presented.
