How long have you been manager of this pub?
I was new to Hall & Woodhouse in July 2013 and have been the proud manager of the Black Horse Iver Heath ever since.
What makes your pub special?
Our pub sign is a caricature of Sid James, who lived in Iver back in 1950’s due to its closeness to Pinewood Studios. Our sign won the Inn Sign Society’s Sign of the Year Award for 2012. To carry on the Pinewood Studios link we also have a large Thunderball design in our restaurant and many of the ‘prop shop’ from the studios regularly visit us for lunch.
How is your pub part of the local community?
The Black Horse is in the heart of the community here in Iver Heath. It is visited by many locals both daily and weekly we have a great name for being both family and pet friendly. We also have various photos of the Iver through the decades, so we are a part of the local areas history.
What events have you got coming up or have recently been a part of?
Last November, we held a great port and cheese evening. Locals brought their own cheese from cheese factory and samples of port. Due to the success of this event, the locals are going to hold this as a big get together, twice a year!
If you could recommend a perfect combination of Badger ale and meal for your visitors – what would you recommend?
Without a doubt, it has to be our award winning Tanglefoot pie with a pint of our seasonal ale, which at the moment is Holy Moley.
How does your pub sum up the Hall & Woodhouse values?
We always aim to make our guests day every time.
What’s good to see and experience in your area after a visit to the pub?
Black County Park in Wexham, between Iver and Slough and adjacent to the Pinewood Studios is a must go. It’s been used as a filming location for many film and television productions. There is now the ‘Go Ape’ activity centre which has zip wires and climbing rigging as well as bike hire. It’s fantastic family day out with lots to do.
What kind of people do you have visiting your pub?
As we are just off the M4 and very close to the M25 and Heathrow airport, so we get all kinds of holiday makers, business men, and of course the local community.
What’s your favourite season of the year at the pub?
The summer! We always get comments on how our pub looks and feels in the summer months and the garden outside being the hive of activity for many in Iver.
