The cold weather is on its way

So it’s official – the cold weather is on its way. The mercury, according to the forecasters, is going  to fall to 6C from  Monday (that’s Met Office speak for brass monkeys), so we say, chuck a log on the fire (or turn up the central heating!), dig out the old Thermals and get stuck in to a glass of our warming Badger’s Poacher’s Choice cocktail, Braconnier.

It’s reminiscent of those old ale flips which traditionally combined spiced sugar and ale, and were warmed with a hot poker  (ye olde microwave had yet to be invented).

We’re not suggesting you grab a poker to warm your beer for our winter cocktail, just heat it on the stove and let the  liquorice and damson flavours in the Poacher’s Choice, along with the warming Cognac and mulled wine spices warm your cockles.  Sound like they’ll be needing it next week!   

Ingredients for Braconnier
25ml Cognac
2 heaped tsp brown sugar
1 tsp ground mulled wine spices
½ bottle Badger’s Poacher’s Choice

Gently warm on a stove and strain into pre-warmed half-pint glasses. Garnish with a clove-studded orange wedge.
