It is of vital importance that every barrel is scrupulously clean for the storage of beer. Therefore regular maintenance of all the equipment is needed. Once the barrels are clean, each one is individually filled by hand.

A huge number of barrels are owned by Hall & Woodhouse. An astonishing 14,000 casks and 10,000 kegs are required to transport the beer from the brewery to the pubs around the country.

Although mechanisation is used to move and stack the various barrels, there is still a lot of manual work to be done.

It is almost impossible to visualise the volume of beer that is transported from the Hall & Woodhouse brewery. Each year in excess of 26 million pint glasses will be lifted to discerning customers' lips; that is about 3.3 million gallons of beer.

To enable the brewery conditioned beers and lagers to reach their destination in perfect condition, a modern fully automated keg line has been installed that fills, seals and conveys the kegs ready for transportation.
