Proudly supporting

Local Charity Partners

Enriching our communities is what we do and have always done. As a sign of our ambition and commitment, we have set ourselves a target of donating and raising £1m every year by our 250th birthday in 2027. Alongside our Community Chest, we have a plethora of initiatives where the company and our teams donate and/or raise money for local good causes… and in 2022 we achieved over £600,000. Our efforts were recognised at the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group National Awards where we received the Pub Aid Corporate Community Hero Award.

Teddy Rocks

Teddy Rocks is an extraordinary story. From raising £400 to fight children’s cancer at a music event in The Greyhound, Blandford in memory of his 10-year-old brother Teddy, Tom Newton has built a fully-fledged music festival that has raised over £500,000 to date. H&W runs all the bars at the festival with our team members volunteering for free, and, with tremendous support from our suppliers, we were able to donate including sponsorship nearly £140,000 to the cause in 2023.

Pub Charity Partnerships to 2020

From 2012 to 2022, our team members voted for a single charity partner for whom Hall & Woodhouse committed to raising over £100,000 each year.

Local Air Ambulances were elected as our charity partner for 2018 to 2020, following over 950 team member votes.  This partnership was unique because it involved not one, but eight individual air ambulance charities coming together as equal beneficiaries.

Previous Charity Partners:

£280,074 raised for Local Air Ambulances (2018 – 2020)

£218,245 raised for Together for Short Lives (2016 – 2018)

£248,237 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support (2014 – 2016)

£229,062 raised for Naomi’s House & Jack’s Place (2012 – 2014)

Pub Charity Partnerships post 2020

Since 2020, each of our managed houses and the Brewery team have chosen which local organisation or organisations to support.  We continue to raise each year well over £100,000 in this way.

Examples in 2022 include:

The Boathouse, Bath hosted The Big Avon Paddle which raised £15,000 for Dorothy House.

The Dorset Beer Festival at the Brewery raised £14,000 for Dorset Mind.

Jon Mead, H&W Innovation Manager, completed a 354k cycle ride and visited all 51 H&W pubs in Dorset to raise £1,867 for Dorset Mind.

Doing Our Bit

From the 1st February 2022 H&W managed houses have been supporting the UK’s largest Emergency Service and NHS discount service for the UK public sector. The blue light card is also available for members of the Armed. It is simply the right thing to do to give back to these valued members of our community.

Our H&W Blue Light Card offer is 15% off the whole bill for members who dine with us in one of our managed houses, Monday to Sunday, when they present a valid Blue Light Card at point of payment. The bill needs to include main meal / sandwich or collection of small plates and sides that constitutes a main meal or a slice of cake and a hot drink. Members can find full terms and conditions here.

Exclusions include: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Easter Sunday, Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day and all Bank holidays. This discount cannot be applied to just drinks. This discount cannot be applied to accommodation. This discount cannot be applied in conjunction with any other offer.

Ukraine Day

The tragic events in Ukraine moved us all, so H&W and our team members decided to donate 50% of sales and all tips from 21st March 2022 to the British Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal – an amount of over £60,000.

Armed Forces Covenant

We are proud to have signed up to the Armed forces Covenant. We will endeavour in our business dealings to uphold the key principles: no member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen; and in some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate especially for the injured or bereaved.

Woodhouse Trust

Charity starts at home. The Woodhouse Trust was set up on 4th November 1993 by Jock Woodhouse, a 6th generation family member, and is funded by family members. Its aim is to provide financial support to both past and present team members who get into financial difficulty.
