Dog & Duck raises more than £15,000 for local family following cancer diagnosis

July 2019

The Dog & Duck in Outwood was joined by members of the community and ex-Eastenders star, Shane Richie, at its charity fun day to raise money for local resident, Matt Hodges and his family.

More than £15,000 was raised through the fun day to support the family following Matt being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Epithelioid Sarcoma.

Donna and Waine Hetherington, owners of the Dog & Duck pub, know Matt and his family as they regularly visit the pub and put on the day to help raise money for the family to go to Disneyland Paris with their two young boys.

The fun day consisted of a barbecue and cake stalls as well as a raffle with prizes which had been donated by over 20 local businesses including a hotel and spa break, theatre tickets and signed Madness memorabilia. In the evening the pub held a music event featuring Shane Richie, 90s soul singer Kenny Thomas, and local funk artist, Kat Jax, with all profits from the day going straight to the family.

Donna Hetherington, owner and operator of the Dog & Duck pub, said: “We were thrilled to have smashed our fundraising target and to have raised enough for the family to visit Disneyland Paris with their two sons, Archie aged 4 and Frankie who is a one year old.

“Thank you to everyone in the local community, our team and my family for their dedication and support. Without them, it wouldn’t have been possible to hold the event and raise such a phenomenal amount of money. By everyone pulling together to help the Hodges, it shows what we can do if we put our minds to it.”

The Dog & Duck in Outwood is owned and run by Donna and Waine Hetherington in partnership with Hall & Woodhouse (H&W).
