Hall & Woodhouse launches new lager to help meet growing demand

May 2019

Hall & Woodhouse has launched Forum Lager, due to the rise in popularity for crafted lagers over the past couple of years.

Forum Lager is a clean and refreshing Helles-style lager, with a delicate flavour created by Weihenstephan yeast and a subtle fruit lemon character from the German Hallertau Blanc and Huell Melon hops. As with Helles lagers, it is pale in colour and has an ABV of 4.2 per cent.
The name is inspired by the term Forum referring to a meeting or gathering, reflecting how Hall & Woodhouse see its pubs being used by local communities in this way. It also pays tribute to the brewer’s home, Blandford Forum, in Dorset.

Hall & Woodhouse hasn’t brewed its own lager for a number of years, but recent drinking trends sparked interest to develop the beer. It is hoped that Forum Lager will be attractive to a younger audience, where 70 per cent of lager drinkers are under 50 years of age, making it the youngest demographic of any beer category*.

Toby Heasman, Head Brewer at Hall & Woodhouse, said: “Forum Lager adds a new dynamic to our portfolio of beers. It’s been an exciting process developing a beer that will compete with some of the most well-known crafted lagers on the market and appeal to a new younger audience.”

Forum Lager will be available exclusively in Hall & Woodhouse’s Managed Houses from Thursday, May 2 and will be rolled out into its Business Partnership (tenanted) estate during the summer.

Hall & Woodhouse will also be selling the lager at this weekend’s Teddy Rocks Festival in Blandford, Dorset. During the weekend, 10p from all pints of Forum Lager sold across the Managed House estate, will be donated to the Teddy20 charity. There will also be the opportunity to try Forum at Wimborne Folk Festival and the Hall & Woodhouse Dorset Beer Festival next month.
