Portsmouth Arms crowned Charity Champion in Great British Pub Awards

October 2020

Richard Curtis, General Manager of the Portsmouth Arms in Basingstoke, has won the Charity Champion accolade at the 2020 Great British Pub Awards.

The win comes after Richard raised nearly £50,000 for local causes during the nationwide lockdown, by hosting daily virtual pub quizzes.

During this time, Richard also broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest marathon as a quiz master. The quiz ran for a record-breaking 34 hours and 11 minutes online.

Commenting on his award win, Richard said: “To be recognised on a national scale for my charity fundraising, is something which I am really proud of. I am grateful to have the support of my whole community, they have been behind me every step of the way. Without the backing of the community, as well as my friends, family and team, I wouldn’t have been able to turn our temporary closure during lockdown, into something so positive.”
