How long have you been landlord of this pub?

I have been the General Manager here for 1 year and 11 months and have seen the Barn Owl go from strength to strength.

What makes your pub special?

I believe it’s the kindness and desire shown by all of my team to ensure we make the guests day and they leave with a smile on their face.

How is your pub part of the local community?

We are involved in various local fundraising initiatives for local schools, colleges and charities. We also have community quiz nights which have proven to be popular and great fun.

What events have you got coming up or have recently been a part of?

Recently we had a very special visit from Santa, he managed to squeeze a visit to the Barn Owl into his very busy schedule to see 34 children and their families. In the summer, we host various garden fetes and parties. The majority of our events involve fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is our divisional charity for this year.

If you could recommend a perfect combination of Badger ale and meal for your visitors – what would you recommend?

It has to be the Roasted Lamb shoulder with roasted potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables and pesto gravy with a refreshing pint of Tanglefoot.

How does your pub sum up the Hall & Woodhouse values?

My team show great ambition and dedication to their job roles making sure that every guest that visits us has a special experience.

What’s good to see and experience in your area after a visit to the pub?

The Barn Owl is lucky to be surrounded by the wilderness and beauty of Dartmoor, only seven miles away and the lovely seaside towns of Teignmouth, Shaldon, Torquay and Paignton.

What kind of people do you have visiting your pub?

Our guests vary from business clientele to families and under 25s for special occasions.

What’s your favourite season of the year at the pub?

Our favourite time of year at The Barn Owl is now when it’s cold and wintery outside because inside it is so cosy and warm with candles, open fires and lots of little snug areas.
